| On Entering Shanghai in the evening our
bus made slow progress in the rush hour traffic over curving roadways
raised high above the ground . There were some intriguing birdseye views
of city life. At one time we were level with the top of an old apartment
building and watched as a little boy practiced his violin on the rooftop
with the family laundry drying around him. After a minute his father emerged
from a hatchway door to check up on his progress and give him some advice
on his tehnique. The sun began to set as we inched along enjoying the
sight of out-of-this-world skyscrapers lighting up as they took turns
reflecting the red sun in their watery glass surfaces. What a variety
of surprising archictectural forms! As we pulled into downtown it was
getting quite dark and the myriad neon signs of Shanghai greeted us.
