China Home

There were some amazing gas stations in China. Huge to the extreme with startling brightly colored arches, crowns and oddly shaped signs poking off into space. Some of these structures looked like they were about to blast off. To top it all off there would also be a team of neatly uniformed gas station attendents, often young women, standing smartly in a line waving and smiling as the customer drives away.

Endless stands along the highway offered construction materials such as sturdy bamboo scaffolding and ladders, landscaping items like ten foot tall scholars rocks (chiseled right there at the roadside), and immense stone lions. It was as if the wares of a giant Chinese-style Home Depot had been brought out into the open air and spread for miles end to end in hundreds of roadside stands.
